Homework at Harper Bell:
At Harper Bell, we believe that homework plays an important role in supporting children's learning, building independence and strengthening the partnership between home and school. Our approach is designed to be manageable, meaningful and consistent for pupils and families.
When Homework is Set:
Homework will be set every Friday in the core subjects:
- Reading
- Writing
- Maths
This gives families time over the weekend and early week to complete tasks at a steady pace.
When Homework Must Be Submitted:
All homework should be returned on or by Wednesday of each week.
This allows teachers time to review work, provide feedback and plan next steps in learning.
How Homework Will Be Set:
Homework may be given in different formats depending on the task and year group:
- Paper-based tasks such as worksheets or homework books
- Digital homework set through Class Dojo

Teachers will always make it clear how homework should be submitted.
Submitting Digital Homework
Families completing homework online can submit it in two ways:
- Upload directly to Class Dojo
(e.g., photo, file upload or message to the class teacher) - Email homework to: homework@hbsda.bham.sch.uk. Please use your child's name and class as the email header e.g. Joe Bloggs, year 2.
Either method is acceptable - please choose the one that works best for you.
Our Aim
We want homework to:
- Reinforce key learning in reading, writing and maths
- Help children develop independence and responsibility
- Provide opportunities for families to engage with learning
- Support the progress each child makes across the curriculum
Thank you for your support in helping your child develop positive homework habits that will benefit them throughout their learning journey.
